Hurricane Watch
- Bring in objects such as lawn furniture and trash cans.
- Fill your cars gas tank with fuel
- Stock up on canned food, first aid supplies, drinking water and medications
- Check flashlights and stock up on batteries
- Check battery operated radio / Spare battery
- Listen for further advisories
- Have on hand some extra cash
- Prepare bag in case of evacuation
- Medications / Supply (At least 1 week)
- Change of clothes
- Blanket
- Water & can food (can opener)
- First Aid Supplies
- Important Papers -Insurance papers, wills, deeds, Birth or marriage certificates, social security card
- Emergency Phone Numbers List
- Map of area planning to evacuate to
- Have an idea of you might evacuate and a propose route
- Fill propane bottles
- Lower Freezer to lowest setting
- Make ice in Freezer to help keep it cold
Hurricane Warning
- Listen to radio & TV for updates
- Store drinking water in clean jugs bottles or cooking utensils
- Notify relatives outside the affected area of your plans and propose evacuation route
- Fill Bathtub with water for
- Be prepared to evacuate if ordered (Leave immediately)
- Clean clogged rain gutters and downspouts
- Clean debris from ditches and drains
If Evacuating
- Don’t forget about your pet
- Pets in shelters/ hotels
- Put food and water out if leaving them home
- Leave in daylight if possible
- Double check for medications
- Turn off utilities – Water, Gas, Electrical
- Cell Phones and charges
- Listen to radio for updates on weather, road closures, shelter occupancy
- Once safe in a shelter notify relatives
AFTER THE STORM
- Wait until the order is given “Safe to Return”
- Utilities may not be functional
- Roadways may be blocked or flooded
- Stores may not be open in the affected area due to damage or utilities
- Upon returning inspect your home for damage prior to having utilities turned back on.
